UPDATE: To accommodate overwhelming demand for the site-specific summer sensation Party This Weekend, the House Party Collective and Scarlet Satin Productions have announced that the show will be moved to a larger venue for its remaining weekends. The show will be presented at 3079 Copley Street (near Nanaimo and Grandview Highway) on August 19, 20, 26, and 27.
On Closing Weekend, it’s a 19+ party with wine and beer served.
I saw this production last Saturday and was wondering what they were going to do with the PNE starting and parking would become an issue. I had a fabulous time and it indeed felt like a house party where “drama” was happening all over the place. As much as I would love to see the rest of the story unfold. There’s just so many good shows and events to see and do, that I don’t think I’ll make it back before the end of the run. The former venue was a nice small house which gave it that intimate and cozy feel. Also the former venue was within walking distance of their after party venue The Press Room. Make sure you allow time to join them, as it was great to unwind with the cast. Just make sure someone reminds Maggie Ma to order the nachos with her mojito instead of her usual yam fries next time!

I kept on seeing buzz through tweets about Party this Weekend, but the somewhat vague title lead me to believe that their literally was a party this weekend. However, at some point I clued in and dug a little deeper and found out that it was not what I thought it was. Indeed it is a party this weekend (and every weekend till August 27th) called “Party this Weekend”. Confused? It’s a site specific piece of interactive theatre which takes place at a house party. Each person who attends has a different view of the party and thus a different story associated with it. You sign up to follow one of the four stories. To see the whole story, you need to either go with four friends who each follow one, or take advantage of their four parties for $40 and go four times to see each one for yourself. This is definitely one I’ll be taking in for myself.
1 party, 4 perspectives Do you know the whole story?
Experience a house party you will never forget, through the eyes of four pivotal party guests. Mingle, eat & drink, following one of these characters through the house each night.
Lara: the helplessly Type-A hostess will keep her best friend’s birthday party running smoothly, even if some heads have to roll
Cameron: the smooth-talking, well-monied douchebag everyone loves to hate… lays everything on the line for the woman he wants
Vivian: a well-meaning social disaster steals the birthday girl’s shoes and searches for her prince charming
Derek: a quirky musician wrestles with his sexual identity while getting roped into one ridiculous scheme after another
. . . Come for one night or all four to get the whole story
Fridays & Saturdays only
July 15 – August 27 at 8pm

A great review by Vancouver Observer and Miss604 TV Week online

Saw it this weekend. AWESOME. They even let you live-tweet all the way through it – when do you get to do that in traditional theatre??
